The Gift

This is a slow, prayerful song written for both personal and corporate worship around the Easter theme. The Gift describes the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the hope that is our salvation thorough his blood and the promise of life eternal.

Hung from a tree for you,
Laid down His life for you,
Created life from death.
Love and protects you,
Carries and cares for you,
Created life with His breath.
My God, My God, My God, Hold me close.

Hears every prayer from you,
Knows every depth of you,
Know that His word is true.
Deep in your heart for love,
Answering prayers with love,
Know that His word is for you.
My God, My God, My God, Hold me close.

Your tears He'll wipe away,
Bring back the light of day,
Blood that was shed for our pain.
Died for our sin to pay,
Washes them clean away,
Blood that removes every stain.
My God, My God, My God, Hold me close.

Every Leaf

My brother-in-law's death from cancer coincided with the birth of our 3rd son and the Christmas season. I wrote this as a modern day parallel to the Simion story and it is slow and contemplative.

For every leaf turned golden brown
Cut loose to rot it's own way down,
Alone, set free, yet full of power
Considers life in its last hour.

The winds of change have one direction
We all look near for our protection,
With hands that plead and eyes that stare
We often miss the love that's there.

And we live, and we try,
And we live, and wonder why,
And we live, and we cry,
And we live, and we die.

A tiny spark breaks the silence
Presents new live into Your presence,
Through the tear of our sorrow
There cry's the child of our tomorrow.

And we live, and we try,
And we live, and wonder why,
And we live, and we cry,
And we live, and we die.

Beyond all time there lives forever
A place that's ours set by a saviour,
Before we knew the pains of birth
All of out sin His life was worth.

And we live, and we try,
And we live, and wonder why,
And we live, and we lie,
And we live, and we sigh,
And we live, and we cry,
And we live, and we die.

Tell Me I'm Sure
(Blessed Assurance)

This is a more up tempo dance/worship song loosely based on the old classic 'Blessed Assurance' which is also its sub title. It was written after a sermon while on holiday at Ivy Farm, Overstrand in Norfolk with my family.

Tell me I'm safe, tell me I'm sure
Tell me I'm clean, tell me I'm pure
But tell me, Spirit I'm yours

Make me Your own, held in the light
Blessed with your power, trust what is right
But call me, Spirit to fight

The contented relief when doubt slips away,
By confessing my sin when I kneel and pray.

Tell me I'm safe, tell me I'm sure
Tell me I'm clean, tell me I'm pure
But tell me, Spirit I'm yours

Warmth in my heart, for Jesus I know
Satisfied me, let His love flow
But free me Spirit to glow

Tell me I'm safe, tell me I'm sure
Tell me I'm clean, tell me I'm pure
But tell me, Spirit I'm yours

Every Day

The thread of an e-group encouraged thought into what and why we do things in God's name. This song sprang for that chain of thought and is aptly sub titled 'The Worship Leaders Lament'.

Every second of Your day,
every word I sing, every note I play,
Every smile I see from the people,
every bell that's tolled from the steeple,
Every voice that's raised in worship,
every hand that's clenched in friendship,
Every speaker that I lift upstairs,
why is it that they come in pairs?

Every day, Your way, I love

Every turn of the key as the church is locked up,
Every drink of coffee gone cold in the cup,
Every glance at the Saviour's face,
Is it safe to live at this pace?
Every meal I miss, every goodnight kiss,
when it's time for boys to go bed,
Every sigh from a wife, who is living my life,
and she'd rather me be home instead,

Every day, Your way, I love

Every new song that I sit and learn,
every page of the music I turn,
Every e-mail I send, every jack plug I mend,
every job that's taken too long,
Every breath put back in my life,
from the Spirit when mine has all gone,
Every new song I write in Your name,
every groan as it's taken in vain,

Every day, Your way, I love

The Waiting Is Over

Written specifically to relay to story of Pentecost 'The Waiting is Over' takes it's scripture from Luke 24 and Acts 1 and 2.

The waiting is over for the Spirit we cry,
and we shall be clothed with power from on high.

Stay in the city, wait there my friend,
My Father has promised His Spirit to send.
Receive, all believers, true power of worth,
And you shall then witness to all the earth.

Through praises and worship a tremendous sound,
A violent windstorm is heard all around.
While constant in prayer and all in one place,
They see tongues of fire rest on each face.

Blessed with the power, in word and in song,
To spread my gospel in every tongue,
Tell of the Glory and wondrous sign,
Tell all of Jesus, of God's love divine.

Pour out your Spirit all over,
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
Your young men will see visions,
Your old men will dream dreams,
There'll be blood and there'll be fire,
There will be billows of smoke,
And those who call on the name of the Lord
They will be saved.

The waiting is over; for the Spirit we cry,
and we shall be clothed with power from on high.

There is You Lord.

This social comment and life observation song received a first prize in the Charwood Arts Festival's Hymn writing catorgory.

If all hell breaks loose on earth,
If all hell breaks loose on earth,
If all hell breaks loose on earth,
There'll be You, Lord, to teach us what is right and what is good,
There'll be You, Lord, and Your word and Your blood.

If the sighted see less than the blind,
and the gentle are no longer kind,
if the deaf hear more than those who have ears,
then the love of this world disappears,
When all hell breaks loose on earth. . . . . .

When the healthy walk less than the lame,
and the sufferer feels only pain,
when the strong are weak with eyes full of tears,
then the love of this world disappears,
Then all hell breaks loose on earth.. . . . . .

Then the rich buy forgiveness of sin,
and the gambler prays for a win,
then the spirit of man is gripped by his fears,
and the love of this world disappears,
Now all hell breaks loose on earth. . . . . .

Now the truth of the Lord is in sight,
and evil shall bow to his might,
now one sinner has turned away from his peers,
and the love of our God reappears,
So when all hell breaks loose on earth. . . . .

Spirit, Spirit.

This song was created during a time of personal meditation and worship. It's easy, rather laid back, tune drifts along effortlessly as the lyrics help to focus on healing our lives and service to God.

Spirit, Spirit, Rain on us Your truth,
Spirit, Spirit, Rain on us Your truth,

Lead us with Your mighty arm,
Lead us to the light,
Change our hearts that we could be
more worthy in Your sight,
Change our lives and all we do,
Help us seek the truth from You.

Spirit, Spirit, Rain on us Your truth,
Spirit, Spirit, Rain on us Your truth,

Send to us Your cleansing water,
Send Your living rain,
Pour Your Spirit into our bodies,
Free us from all pain,
Lord, we praise for life anew,
Give us power to work for You.

Spirit, Spirit, Rain on us Your truth,
Spirit, Spirit, Rain on us Your truth,

Rob Newton
